This is absolutely correct!
Judge: "Richard have you wasted money trying expensive strings and then told your wife that they were cheaper?"
Richard: "Guilty Your Honour!"
Well, in May my teacher is off to England to probably purchase what's probably a Maggini, as well as getting a new Thomas Martin as the extra cost is totally overlookable.. and I still don't think he's told his wife about it... you're a good, honest man in comparison, Richard. ;)

I think I know that Bass and it is probably NOT a Maggini but is quite old. Perhaps made about 100 or so years after Maggini. Maybe Italian and maybe not. Opinions vary on that particular Bass. I knew two of the former owners of it and some of its repair history which is why one of them got rid of it some 35-40 years ago or so.
Tell your teacher to take it to an independent Luthier not connected to the seller before considering the purchase.

Yes; I have warned him. Still don't know if it's the exact same instrument, though.

Who has the bass? Who owns the bass? I bet it's the same one.

Speaking of Maggini's, here's a photo of Barry Lieberman's:

Looks to me like a 'London' Maggini. Looks more like a Fendt to me, sorry.

And, if you blow up this pic, you will see just how English this is. Very Fendt/Lott/British-like and similar to my Hart with a circular emblem under the Button. So NOT Italian much less Maggini.

Why is the bridge, on that bass being played by the guy with the red jersey, not lined up with the Vs in the f holes?

Possibly to reduce the string length? Perhaps we should create a new thread.
