On this, our Memorial Weekend 2009, let us not forget those (the real Heroes) that gave their tomorrows so we could have ours.
Thank you!

I will be working most of the weekend to help preserve our way of life. Work and get fed or the job you have goes to India or the Philippines, or China or Argentina.

We work to live and people die defending our freedom. Then, big corporations SELL our Jobs to other countries. Is that why Americans die in Foreign wars? To ship our Jobs overseas and unemployed fellow Americans so that Corporate heads can make Multi Millions until the company goes Bust and then keep the Money and their wealth while the Unemployed who lost their Jobs DIRECTLY from these Greedy MoFos then starve to death trying to survive on what little they have left?

If we must fight and die for a cause, let the cause do more than fatten a few millionaires.

I had trouble with my GM Car. I called and spoke to some rude ass in Argentina who told me 'too bad' you are stuck with the Car.
I had trouble with my Visa bill and called. I spoke to some woman in INDIA who knew all of my private information.
I had trouble with my Web service and called on night and spoke to someone in the Philippines. The billing center is only 20 miles from me where they take my money. The Problem center is on the other side of the world.

I spoke to a wife of an Auto Credit worker and was told her husband was ordered to go to India and train them to do his job or he would loose his and his pension. He did as was told and afterwards was fired because, they didn't need him anymore.

Is this what we fight and die for? GM lost 23 million last year as reported. The CEO salary was 16 million. So, they really only lost 7 million but he pocketed 16 million because he was greedy. Now your sons and grandchildren will pay in their taxes the bail out that allowed him to keep the 16 million he stole in my opinion and kept.

I hope truly that Obama fixes this Greed for money and life policy. It is totally messed up. I never felt more like a puppet on a string than I have felt this past year. It doesn't matter how hard I work. It matters more how many millions these CEO's can steal and get away with. Then, we the public puppets have to pay for it. This totally sucks..

Some mighty sad, but true words uttered by Ken. People wonder what's wrong with this country (America.) I guess most are just blind or snowed by reality and shrug their shoulders. If products and jobs keep going to other countries, one day we Americans will have no money to buy those products. Scary thought, but it's developing as we speak.

Here (U.S.)
I have a problem with this name because it has no real direction. From any person's own point of view, he is 'here'.
Tim, I think you need to define the boundaries of this thread a little more clearly. You could try:
"This big bit (U.S.)" or, maybe,
"Here, from where Tim is standing, (U.S.)".
For guidance, check out the thread I started called,
"Up There (Near Canada)".
You could have actually used a name like this because you are all reasonably near to Canada. I give you permission to take over this name if it helps.
No, don't thank me.

Yes, very southern.
Oren, my friend, when people around here use the word 'post', they don't mean that you have to put a stamp on it and drop it in a mail box. You just write something and then push 'Submit Reply'.

ps. Does it take a guy from a country that won't let US nuclear warships into its harbours to keep the Here (U.S.) thread ticking over?

George Carlin on aging.
(Absolutely Brilliant)

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?' 'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30 ; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay 'them.'

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.' And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10.Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Dog Pack Kills Alligator In Florida

At times nature can be cruel, but there is also a raw beauty, and even a certain justice manifested within that cruelty.
The alligator, one of the oldest and ultimate predators, normally considered the apex predator in its natural ecosystem, can still fall victim to implemented team work strategy, made possible by the tight knit social structure and survival of the fittest pack mentality bred into canines over the last thousands of years by natural selection.

See the remarkable photograph attached, courtesy of Nature Magazine. Note that the Alpha dog has a muzzle hold on the gator preventing it from breathing, while the remainder of the pack prevents the beast from rolling.

Beware! This is not for the squeamish!

Killed in action the week before, the body of Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough, Georgia. A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time. Nowadays, one can be led to believe that America no longer respects honor and no longer honors sacrifice outside the military. Be it known that there are many places in this land where people still recognize the courage and impact of total self-sacrifice. Georgia remains one of those grateful places. The link below is a short travelogue of that day's remarkable and painful journey.

Pfizer Announcement:

Pfizer Corp. announced today that Viagra will soon be available in liquid form, and will be marketed by Pepsi Cola as a power beverage suitable for use as a mixer.

It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one. Obviously we can no longer call this a soft drink and it gives new meaning to the names of 'cocktails', 'highballs' and just a good old-fashioned 'stiff drink!' Pepsi will market the new concoction by the name of: MOUNT & DO..

Thought for the day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2020, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

Two older guys meet up on the first tee to play Golf. Strangers to each other they do the normal social introductions. One man says.. "I can hit the ball a mile but I can't see all that well". The other man a bit more elderly even says "don't worry, I have perfect vision".

The first man tees off and hits the ball 350 yards but hooks it a bit left into the rough. The man says "did you see where that went?".. The other man says "yes.. my vision is perfect"! The other says, "ok, tell me"!!.. The elderly mad says.. "I can't remember"!!:eek::D:D;)

You are on the wrong Forum/WebSite with this. Silly only goes so far.

I added the name 'Play Pen' to the Bull Pit just for you Richard. Please keep it out of the gutter.http://www.smithbassforums.com/images/icons/icon4.gif

Yes Sir Richard, you should be on the Home And Garden site. Then, when you're done with your gutters, please help with ours. Ah yes, Fall in The South. It's raining leaves constantly and the gutters are needing help getting rid of them.

Nothing against the Phillies - just when I was a young lad, The Yankees were in some of their glory days with Mickey Mantle, Roger Marris, Whitey Ford etc., so unless something happens for me to change, I'll probably be going with them, even though contrary to Rebels, I guess Yankees will do. :)

PS to my friend Richard (from an old commercial) - "Don't take the World Serious."

How about Joe Pepitone? Roger was a rookie when Mickey was already a veteran. Whitey? How old are you? I was like a child to a teen at beast when I learned these names.

No, they are playing the Philistines.
This can actually be taken three ways:
Are you are referring to the people who occupied the southern coast of Canaan in biblical times, or are you describing someone (or a group of people) who undervalues art, or are you making a reference to the team that will front up to the Yankees (whoever they may be) who are, in your opinion, a bit lacking in appreciation of the finer things in life?

Richard Prowse

Yes, this is what I mean.
Well, the Philistines who occupied the southern coast of Canaan, in biblical times, are all dead. That's just silly to think that they could turn up to some modern sporting fixture. Now I see why Ken renamed The Bull Pit the Play Pen. Though, if he intended a reference to the southern coast of Cannan, The Sand Pit might have been a more appropriate name.
Option 2 (someone (or a group of people) who undervalues art) would imply that these Yankees are all sensitive individuals who are artistically superior to their opposition. I don't know if that's the best quality for a sporting team to have.
Option 3, if I may say so, is a little self praising, considering that you are obviously siding a little with the Yankees. What, after all, is the fate of an artist who sees himself as standing above the common folk? Remember that a bass player (or an artist) is only as good as his last gig.

It's getting close to that time that, at least "Here (US)" will have Halloween land on Saturday night.

With that in mind, I'm wondering what all of you folks are going to use for costumes. Please advise so that I won't become too alarmed if I see you. Of course, the easy ones will be those who are scary enough to not need to "dress up."

My friend Richard, since you'll be among the first to experience Halloween, won't you start us off? :D

Sorry, I seem to have forgotten. What other countries are in the world series?
I did some research:
"The World Series is played between the League Championship Series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/League_Championship_Series) winning clubs from MLB's two circuits, the American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_League) and National Leagues (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_League), which collectively consist of 30 teams based in the United States and one in Canada (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada) (Toronto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto)) with players drawn primarily from the United States, Latin America (including the Caribbean), Canada, Japan, and Korea."
So, players can come from different countries but 30 of the 31 teams are based in the US. Not exactly a world series. Maybe it should be renamed The US +1 Series?
Oh yes, and it seems that the Phillies are not from Philistine.

The difference in game 4? A-Rod's bat woke up, Ryan Howard's didn't.Well, up to that point in the series, A-Rod only had one hit (a home run). I'll agree on this, certainly the high-dollar players weren't getting it done.

I'd say the difference, without question, in game 4 was Johnny Damon. With two quick outs from Lidge at the top of the 9th., Damon ends up working the pitch count and then drives the ball for a hit. He then stole 2nd. bass, and then third (because the Phill's were playing the shift). Without Damon's heads-up at-bat and bass running, who knows what happens in the bottom of the 9th. in game 4?

I'm just sayin'...

Can you say nail-biter!? Damn! Top of the ninth wasn't any easier as the Yank's threaten a come-back in Game 5 of WS. Once again Johnny Damon, like last night, works the pitch count from 0 - 2 to come back and get a hit to give the Yank's a chance. But, multi-million-dollar-boy Teixeria strikes out to end the game.

Ken, my friend, you misunderstand. All games evolve, well the first game called 'football' was probably played in England before your War of Independence, and I'm sure the ancient Egyptians invented a similar game involving an object coming into contact with one's foot. Maybe they called it Skullball? Or Deadlittleanimalball? Anyway, what I was suggesting is that it would be interesting to see a group of your football guys play a team of your baseball guys. Sure, the rules might need to be slightly modified; maybe they could mix up the teams - half the football and baseball guys on each side. Rugby Union supposedly started when some guy picked up a soccer ball, during a match, and took off with it wrapped tightly in his arms. You're football game probably owes a lot to that enterprising moment some time in the nineteenth century. Now, call me modest but, I'm prepared to let you put the idea forward to your Yankee mates. Who knows, if it works out, they might decide to call this new hybrid game Kenball. No need to thank me, old buddy.

Richard, I would call you anything BUT modest. We have a culture gap here. A HUGE culture gap. What you think is funny in your mind is considered to be disruptive in other peoples minds. Here in USA MOST people I know are serious to the degree they are not and they usually make that obvious. When you come up here with these strange ideas and the way you present them, it's almost like answering someones question in a different language.

No, I am not interested in any mixed games. Might as well breed a Fish with a Cow..

NOW.. Back to on topic please...

I guess it would be off topic to say that I LIKE Richard's idea - in fact, I'd be interested to see how he would combine rugby and cricket. I betcha those paddles would do a fine job of clearing a scrum.... :)

And if we could mix a fish with a cow, perhaps we could start eating steak that's high in Omega 3 and low in cholesterol...

Dave, I really appreciate your kind reply. You are obviously a man with a big heart and a stack of lateral thinking. I thank you, my friend.
Although I know he finds me difficult at times (probably most of the time), I didn't think Ken's reply was one you'd expect from a friend. Down here (NZ) we'd say that sometimes Ken plays on an uneven field. Thanks again Dave.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY OREN!!!
58 today!

Thank you my low key semi-mute friend. Let the celebrating begin. One of the highlights will be tonight with about 20 friends - we'll go to Shoguns, a Japanese Steak house where the cooks prepare the food at your table and entertain you all the while. Tons of wonderful food. We've done this for the last 16-18 years. Then go to my house for cake, wine, chardonnay, coffee & Pepsi. Come one, come all, for the Big "O"s in the house with his big rigs and ready to shake some pictures off the walls. :D

Heard from cuzin' Dave Martin today. He was heading to Salisbury, NC for a Sunday afternoon gig and remembered that I'm in North Carolina. We talked on the phone and I told him that Salisbury is about an hour and 1/2 from me, and had I known earlier, I would have made plans to go see him. He also told me that the band would be back in North Carolina in March. We might get to meet then. :)

Big day in Dixie ---- On this date in 1861 in Montgomery, Alabama, the Confederate States Of America was formed. Added to this is that it's also Alice Cooper's 62nd birthday and Clint Black's 48th birthday. What a day! ;)

I hear that this may be the Blizzard of the century so far.. Not necessarily in my area but the storm overall. I brought my Hart bass home because I have an Orchestra rehearsal Sunday at 2pm and may not have the time to go into the office and pick it up beforehand as I usually would. I think the roads will just be drivable by then. Usually this Orchestra rehearses at 7pm but due to the Superbowl, they moved it back. They seem to be more concerned about making it home in time to watch football but not concerned with hazardous driving conditions.. Priorities, go figure.. lol

Ken is telling it like it is. I don't think Tim's original intent was to stick it to the Right Wing, but Ken's comments certainly do make it clear that the last administration really screwed the pooch. Like Ken says, I hope Obama can dig his way out of the mess that he inherited, but I think he is going to have to make some hard choices that will require growing a serious set of gonads.
Why people can't see that the One Percenters, CEO's and old school politicians are the ones stealing our tax dollars, and doing their best to destroy the middle class ( Yes, that includes you, you Walmart shoppin', Rush Limbaugh worshipping, gun toting hillbillys out there ), I just can't understand. Yet they still vote these fools into office, and believe the crap they spew.
Here is the perfect example of lack of smarts....the guy who had his house burn to the ground today because he did not pay the local fire department $75.00 for his yearly coverage. His county in "redneckville" had the typical knee jerk reaction to voting to raise taxes to cover emergency services. In good old "right wing" fashion, they strongly voted for no new taxes, and left coverage up to individuals in the local communities to pay the $75.00 per year for fire dept. services. Well of course this guy did not pay, so he got no help and his house burned to the ground killing his dogs and cats as well. The moral of this story is that if the fools in the county had just done the math, and voted for the tax increase, they all would have paid 13 cents each to have full fire dept. coverage, and this guy's home would have been saved. I know I would rather pay 13 cents that $75.00 for a much needed service. Does that make me a socialist? No, just better at math that the hillbillys in redneckville.
Just remember, there is no such thing as "Trickle Down Economics" and there never will be with the human race. We are inherently greedy, and when given power and the opportunity to steal, people do. Anyone who is rich today and complaining about taxes should look to what the tax rate was on the rich and corporations back in the 1950's. It was about 90%! They have it easy today. The key to a strong USA is a strong middle class and fewer elite billionaires.

Trevor, did you say Walmart? I heard that this family of owners, the Waltons do nothing to contribute back to the people from the multi millions they pocket at the expense of mom and pop shops going under that can't fight the prices of 'made in china' Walmart big box stores.

Whether it's home items, simple clothes, furniture, hardware, appliances or electronics, they can under price everyone.

They do on the other hand hire a lot of people including the elderly but so does McDonalds and Burger King. At least there, most can tell the difference between processed food and real cooked food. How many can tell the difference between quality goods and Walmart bargains?

Yep, Walmart is pure evil. They hire folks, but you have to know their hiring practices to understand that even at that they are pure evil. They hire people at low wages, and keep their hours below 40 per week which does not qualify them for benefits of any kind. They are basically one step above slave owners. That is what big business is striving for. A slave work force.
The worst part is that these mega companies have so much pull in Washington, that no matter who we elect, the Walmarts of the world have the politicians in their back pocket. That leads to low wages, environmental destruction, a free ride on taxes for the corporations, and the conversion of the middle class to peasant slaves. The only winners are a few CEO's who take everything for themselves and hide the money in other countries. Just like **** Chaney.

Where possible and at all costs, I avoid shopping at Wal-Mart for several reasons, including those Trevor mentions. I choose to support what's left of American made products and will continue to do so.

Our Govt. is and has been getting way too big and the corruption continues on both sides of the party lines. It's going to take a serious shake-up of our apathetic mindset as a people to make a meaningful difference. Our Govt. continues to play on this to their advantage and our detriment. We're like friggin' sheep being led to the slaughter.

"Political Correctness" is destroying and will destroy this country unless swift and genuine change occurs soon. A complete and thorough house-cleaning is way overdue. I believe people who believe in and support our Constitution and Rule Of Law in this country are hearing and seeing just about all they can stomach. Nov. 2nd. will be very telling.

With no disrespect to others opinions and what has been discussed thus far about this topic, this thread is obviously taking a turn into what could become a political fire-storm. On that note, I will attempt to refrain from adding fuel to that potential fire and move on.

This also guarantees a return to Texas for a game 6, IF the Rangers don't sweep the Yanks in NY to win it all (doubtful that would happen, but hey, who knows). Another thing to keep in mind: If there is a Game 7, Cliff Lee pitches it in Texas. Certainly not a done deal but the Rangers are lookin' gooooooood!

Also, I think the Phill's will see World Series action, if nothing else, on the strength of their pitching. Game 3 in San Fran tomorrow. I would love to see a Rangers/Phill's World Series.

TURKEY RECIPE

I thought this sounded good! Here is a turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing ingredient -- imagine that When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who just are not sure how to tell when turkey is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.

8 - 15 lb. turkey
1 cup melted butter
1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is Good)
1 cup un-popped popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER'S LOW FAT IS BEST)
Salt/pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush turkey well with melted butter, salt, and pepper.

Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan making sure the neck end is toward the front of the oven, not the back.

After about 4 hours listen for the popping sounds.

When the turkey's ass blows the oven door open and the bird flies across the room.... it's done.

And you thought I didn't cook...:D
