Hard to say where it was actually made. The Neck Block area is a concern. The pattern does look English but that doesn't mean that it wasn't a German contracted instrument and then completed in England. Only a close internal inspection will tell one way or the other. Maybe!

Look closely at 3 different Hawkes basses made on the exact same Panormo pattern. One is German, one is French and one is English. Unless you examine the construction methods used, it's hard to tell them apart. We assume the outer lining model is German but the English used some linings as well, maybe! The French and English models from the outside look similar but not the Varnish.

In the case or Tarr and Cole it's tough to say where it was made without this exam method. I played a Tarr a few days ago. Upclose it looked German but looking from 10 feet away it looked English. The Varnish was the best part of the bass and was nothing I have seen from the German school.

I honestly do not know what that Bass is for sure. Going by pattern alone can be a careless mistake in the long run. Anyone can cut a shape out!
