Hello folks. A bit of self-introduction is in order, since I'm new here, and have, as it were, joined the family with the purchase of a very nice, pre-owned CR-5.

I'm 42, and have been playing electric bass since the age of 12. I'm from Seattle, but have lived there, Orange County, CA, Memphis, TN, and now Wichita, KS. I've been fortunate; each place has been a great town for music, though each in different respects. Along the way, I've been lucky to get to make a few records (some with actual budgets!), to do some national touring, and, at one point, to play with a bona fide rock star--Geoff Tate of Queensryche, to be precise. As I say, I've been a blessed guy musically, and, as a minor-leaguer who occasionally gets called up to the majors, I've made the most of my opportunities.

By profession, I teach philosophy at the undergraduate level, so music is an important outlet for my creative and affective side. The last few years have seen me taking up guitar, primarily country and folks, and bringing that chordal and melodic knowledge back into my bass work. As of now, I'm just striving to get my reading skills back, and to bring more scalar knowledge into my playing. Feeling really stagnant with the rock stuff.

In general, I gravitate toward well-played pop bass lines; folks like Bob Glaub, Chuck Rainey, Lee Sklar, Hutch Hutcherson, Carol Kaye, and Jaco with Joni. As a journeyman musician, I probably play most like Bruce Thomas from Elvis Costello and the Attractions. And yeah, I'll fess to being another white guy who wishes he were James Jamerson.

So, good to meet everyone, and I look forward to gleaning what I can about these marvelous instruments that Mr. Smith has created for us, and the music that is played on them.
