Hi Ken and Everybody else,

I have a problem with the preamp on my Ken Smith Bass:
When going from passive to active, and pushing down the volume knob, I get a very loud popping noise. I get this noise even when I turn down the volume of the bass, so I actually have to turn down the volume on the amp, on order to avoid this.
Any Ideas what this could be and how I can solve the Problem?

Many thanks,

Chris.

This is a Burner Bass? Made in 1989? If so, the first batch of 40 basses did this. They were corrected by the second batch a few months later.

Other than that, you might just need a new circuit being that this is a 20 year old bass. Not a huge expense considering its age. I wish my Car ran as well or any car for that matter.

Hi Ken,

thanks for the answer. It actually is the 2 band preamp of a 1990 BT bass.

Chris.

Chris.

Still, it is the early Burner Circuit made in Japan if it has 4 separate Pot/boards encased in rubber and connected by a ribbon wire.

Serial number?

72990? Did you say this was a Burner Bass or did I just assume that from your Profile? Please, can I see the Bass itself as well?

Is the circuit the model I described? Picture?

You probably need to replace the Circuit.

Ok, I missed this. Your profile says you have a Burner 5. THAT Bass has a BT 4-knob Preamp. In the video you just PM's me, it is a BT6G model with the older Concentric 3-knob BT that we used in 1990 as well on the USA basses.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9NR8fYduz0

See, with a picture at first we would have saved all this time. lol

You probably need the volume pot replacement board to fix the bass.

I was thinking 1990 Burner by your profile but now I see what you have. Update your profile when you can. Also, I remember you looking for a 16mm bass so I never thought you would have bought an 18mm model. Confusing to me from what we have talked about in the past. Then the serial number you sent also confused me as it was not a Burner #.

All clear now and my guess on the fix is the best I can do unless the bass is in my hands.
