Just wondering if any one on here have experimented with putting flats on their fretted Ken Smith bass?

Results? Comments?

I wouldn't do it simply because that isn't the sound I would be looking for out of my Smith, however, I would suggest YOU try if for yourself and determine if that works for YOU or not. Also, you should familiarize yourself with the strings Ken provides. Smith also stocks similar strings such as the type you are considering and at a very affordable price. Great strings!

Bottom line: The best match set of strings for a Smith are Smith Medium Taper Cores. YMMV.

The Slick Rounds are close to flats. They feel flat but are round under the windings.

Thanks Tim. I have been a customer of Ken's since 1989. Ken built a winner for me in late 89. Had it at a luthier just yesterday. He couldn't stop playing it. He even stated that of all the Smiths he has worked on that this one stands out. Love to hear comments like that.

Just strung a vintage jazz with flats to try out. I think I will stick to my preferred strings for my KS.

Thanks to Ken and Tim for your suggestions.
