Hi,

I would like to have some infos about my bass.
I purchased it almost 20 years ago but I don't know much about its origin...
Please let me know if any other specific pics are needed.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Looks very German to me but the finish looks new. The style of the tuners are old, maybe 100 years or maybe 50 but the back and sides look brand new in condition.

What were you told about the bass 20 years ago when you bought it?

Any labels or brands inside the bass? What does your Luthier call the bass?

Thank you for your prompt reply Ken.

When I bought it, I've been told it was probably made in a german factory around 1930-1950, but I've never verified... What do you think about?
No label inside, sorry.

Thanks
Davide

From 1939-1945 was WWII. So not much was made then. With the absence of outer linings I think it is still German but on the nicer side. The back has lower outer wings added. That might account for a shortage of wide wood planks or money to buy the wood. Not common for a Germanic bass as most all German basses are 2 piece in the back, flat or carved. Maybe just a piece too big to use for a cello and used for a bass but maybe the outer areas were damaged so they cut that away and made wings. Who knows? We weren't there. The fluted f hole wings show also a nicer model as well but doesn't date the bass.

Nicer side meaning, better quality than the masses.
