This is a Beautiful old Italian bass made in the Guitar Style but with Violin Corners and added Scalloped Blocks on the Ribs of each of the 8 corners. This 3/4 bass has been played and admired by many great players including Leon Bosch, Stefano Sciascia and Gary Karr, the latter two favoring smaller Basses like this. This bass is extremely versatile having been used for Chamber music, Jazz w/Orchestra amplified, Orchestra section, Pit Orchestra w/amp and excellent for Solo performance as well, fulfilling the needs of any size ensemble or venue. String Length is 41" (104.1cm).

Measurements:
String Length; 41 1/4"
Top/Back Length; 43 3/4" top, 44 1/2" back
Upper Bout; 19 1/4"
Middle Bout; 14 1/2"
Lower Bout; 25 3/4"

In these pics you can see the Top work in-progress which was extensive. Also, on the inside you can see the partially 'kerfed' linings that were done after gluing in at construction in order to bend the thick Ribs and Linings together 'in-one' rather than adding the Linings after. This was probably a Lute/Violin maker as the bass has signs of both skills in one instrument. Also, the 16th century label is old, but not original but this bass was made in that style. The full finished bass still with the Luthier in the last pic before the bass was delivered to me at which time a final set-up was done afterwards. The restoration was done by Robbie McIntosh with set-up work also done by Arnold Schnitzer. The later added C-Extension was done by Keiran O'Hara as well as a later Back restoration a few years ago. I have played and performed on this bass for about 10 years. It's an amazing instrument.
