I'm new to Ken Smith basses, and 6 strings in general, and I've fallen in love with my '87 BT6... but...

The G & C (mostly the C) strings are noticeably quieter and the tone is "thinner" sounding than the other strings.

What can be done about that?

Thanks

Needs a Smith Set-up with Smith strings. Also, I don't know how you are playing it or thru what amp, etc.

Just ordered some Smith strings last night. I'll give that a whirl and get back to you.

I'm playing it through a Traynor SB200H > Schroeder 1X12 + Hartke 2X10.

As far as the setup goes. what would be involved in that? I believe you're in PA?

Thanks

TCRM-6 set?

In a set-up, we replace the strings as well so if coming here for that or sending the bass soon, hold off on putting new strings. Cost depends on the work needed but for a 6, starts at $100.

It's highly unlikely that I'd come in or send it for a setup, being in Canada. Strings: TCRML-6

ML is medium c/g/d.. Light A, E, B. Not the balanced set we put on the bass but see what happens.

I guess I will. I just ordered them last night, so I might be able to change them up.

OK. Well I got my TCRML's and I'm gonna give them a try. I'm curious as to whether it's advisable to take all the old strings off first, then put all the new ones on, or change them one at a time.

I usually change them one at a time, to keep from de-stressing the neck suddenly... but changing them all at once would give me a chance to use the wax polish on the fingerboard.

Also, how many wraps around the tuning posts?

Thoughts?

Thanks, and should I be only changing one string at a time, or is all at once OK?

To clean and oil the FB take them all off. If on a gig, one at a time.
