Ken, this is a question I've been wanting to ask for some time-

I have a 1996 BSR 4 string (bought new) and it has always been a good bit more sensitve to things like light dimmers, TV's, etc. Even in the best of conditions, if I completely remove my hands from the strings, it buzzes pretty good. I've owned 5 other Smiths that were much better behaved than this one. All of the other basses were '97 or newer. Did you change something in the electronics or is the shielding better? Do you think it's possible to do something to quiet this bass some?

thanks....

Chris

It needs to be re-shielded with Conductive Paint. In time the paint can sink into the wood. Just the slightest break in coverage or lack of conductivity can cause the shielding to fail. This has nothing to do with the circuit or pickups failing. It is just the painted Shielding that protects it from that frying pan noise when the strings are not grounded by touch. Under lights or facing an amp can make it more noticeable as well as when boosting the treble control.

 OK, good. The bass needs to be returned for some TLC anyway, so... would you do the re-shielding for me?

Thanks again!

Sure, just send it in with a note and John will call you when he looks the Bass over.
