About Me

  • About Tim Freeman
    Musical Background
I was a student bass player 30 years ago. I did not pursue it professionally after about 1992.
    Location
    New Jersey
    Additional Information
My grandfather, Henry Freeman, was a bass player in the Boston Symphony starting in the mid-1940s through the late 1960s. He bought four basses during his career - an English Dodd, an Italian (I don't know the maker), a German (I don't know the maker), and a JB Allen American bass. I currently have the JB Allen, and my father has the Italian (I'll find out the maker). My father sold the Dodd and the German bass several years ago.
    Your Gear
JB Allen, circa 1841. It's in pretty good shape for not having any work done on it since about 1990. Strings are 30 yrs old.
    Why you joined Ken's Corner
I googled JB Allen because I was interested in learning more about that maker and I came upon your site. Just generally interested in basses and history of the instrument.
