- Musical Background
- Manufacturer of Ken Smith Basses but also back part time playing playing again on Double Bass in a Local Symphony Orchestra (or 2, and other Gigs as well including a Smith Bass as needed) using one of the Basses from my personal collection; http://www.kensmithbasses.com/doublebasses
I Retired in 1988 after playing both Electric Bass and Double Bass in & around NYC for 20 years as well as some traveling in my earlier days. I did mostly studio work from 1975 and curtailed most travel. I taught about 450 Students privately on both Electric Bass and Double Bass from about 1974-1986 but retired from that as well. In 1978 I started Ken Smith Basses,Ltd. and continued to play as the Business grew. Now I'm back working the Bow in 2 local Symphony Orchestras and a few other Gigs as time allows. - Location

- Your Gear
- My main instrument has been an 'English Maggini' by John Thomas Hart with a custom Sartory model Bow by Sue Lipkins. Lately, I have done most of my concerts with an old Lionhead German school bass and a Czech/Moravian bass for Amped gigs and also Orch. rehearsals. Both these basses now have C-extensions but I used them as well before the Extensions were added. I have other basses and bows that I take out as well on occasion to "test the waters".
For Electric work (which is rare for me these days) I use a Smith 5M model in Walnut or a '99 Burner Deluxe 4-string that I take out when needed. - Why you joined Ken's Corner
