About Me

  • About Ken Smith
    Musical Background
    Manufacturer of Ken Smith Basses but also back part time playing Double Bass in Local Symphony Orchestras (and other Gigs as well including a Smith Bass as needed) using one of the Basses from my personal collection;

    I Retired in 1988 after playing both Electric Bass and Double Bass in & around NYC for 20 years as well as some traveling in my earlier days. I did mostly studio work from 1975 and curtailed most travel. I taught about 450 Students privately on both Electric Bass and Double Bass from about 1974-1986 but retired from that as well. In 1978 I started Ken Smith Basses,Ltd. and continued to play as the Business grew. Now I'm back working the Bow in a few local Symphony Orchestras and a few other Gigs as time allows.

    Additional Information
    Just ask me if you are curious..
    Your Gear
    My larger Orchestra Basses include a 1980 Pollmann Busseto and a 1910 Louis Lowendall Strad model. I also use as needed my older Marconcini school 3/4 quasi-guitar style bass, all with chromatic ebony C-Extensions. My other Bass for amplified gigs like shows, jazz gigs and Orchestra Pops concerts is an Italian style Bass by Josef Kreutzer from Brno, 1953. My Bows include a Vigneron model by Slaviero of Cremona, an early Roger Lotte, and a Sartory model by Peter Eibert.

    For Electric work (which is rare for me these days) I have a '99 Burner Deluxe 4-string that I take out when needed.
