Although I love the Strados Crossover Bass, I would not recommend it because if anything goes wrong, you are up the creek.

I bought my Crossover bass because I heard Jorge Bringas playing it with Nu Guajiro and I fell in love with the sound to size ratio of the instrument. It gets a great baby bass sound but it's about the size of a bass guitar and fits in a easy to carry backpack case. Nice for getting around the city on subways and busses with an amp. Playing it upright is easier for me since I come from an upright background. The bout that came with it is angled so that the fingerboard is more parallel to your body than perpendicular, so I went to the David Gage shop and Manny built a custom bout for me that makes playing it upright much more comfortable, though for bowing, the original bout works better.

About a two months ago the pickup for the g-string gave out during a gig with Quimbombo. The g-string started to make a crunching sound. At first I thought my speaker was blown, but it only came from the g-string pick-up. I put the d-string in the g-string notch on the bridge and got the same sound, so I determined that it was the piezo there on the bridge. I called Zeta, explained the situation, and asked if I could send in just the body, since I had isolated the problem and it would be much easier to ship without the neck. Joe, the customer service guy, checked and said ok. I sent it in and called and emailed several times until Joe finally got back to me to tell me that the body had arrived. Six weeks later, I still have not received the instrument and I have no idea if anyone has even looked at it. I have called Zeta almost every day and sent numerous emails inquiring about the status of the bass, but I get no response. Today I finally sent them a message saying that if I don't hear from them today, I will start posting my tale of woe to bass forums.

In conclusion, it's a cool instrument but since Zeta are the only ones who can repair the piezo system, heaven help you if yours spontaneously dies the way mine did.
