Quite a few people are making Double Basses in USA now. I wouldn't say that we are competing with the high production from abroad but at least in the quality area we are putting up a pretty good fight..;)

kurt ratering 07-29-2010 04:23 PM

as a native of wisconsin from just outside the fox valley i would like to mention Oshkosh Truck as being an american company still making quality products in the usa. :)
i wish i could mention Oshkosh Bgosh, but if memory serves me right, they bailed to mexico after nafta was signed :(

Arnold Schnitzer 07-30-2010 07:35 PM

Boats and yachts.

Srikanth Narayanan 07-30-2010 07:57 PM

Weapons of Mass Destruction.

It's pretty safe to say that those manufacturing jobs won't be outsourced to China for a long, long while. A long, long, while.

Ken Smith 07-30-2010 10:24 PM

made in usa..

Yo, take a trip down to oz and visit Richard Prowse. You seem like him almost with a different screen name.

The decline or Manuf. in USA is largely do to people wasting time on the internet.

I would guess maybe Benjamin Willard as far as a Double Bass sized instrument goes. He predates Prescott and may have taught him. The Back as well the Top was made from Pine on Willard's basses. So they say..

Tim Bishop 08-02-2010 08:54 PM

Made in USA...

Military uniforms and tactical gear.

Nathan Parker 08-02-2010 08:56 PM

Crayola crayons are still made in the U.S. Was kinda shocked, but in a good way, because my daughter was trying to eat them at the time of discovery.

Thomas Erickson 08-02-2010 10:05 PM

The Amish still make great products. Leather goods especially come to mind.

I think I've heard that some of the grape-growers down in Cali have started producing some good olives too - so there. ;)

Actually now that I think of it, there's another one for the list - Wine, beer, spirits... I think maybe Wayne likes to sample and post! :p

Seeing that this thread has morphed into a life of it's own I have to add that Glock pistols are entirely manufactured in Austria :D

Tim Bishop 08-03-2010 05:08 PM

There is a large Glock facility in Marietta, Ga. It appears that it is only a warranty service and distribution facility, but in the 80's everyone called it the "Glock plant". Apparently it was only for warranty service and not full assembly or manufacture. Sorry about the mistake.
