It's going to be awhile I'm afraid. It's such a super awesome fretless.

Hello Ken,

Could you tell what grade of walnut top my bass has? Is there a rule of thumb in grading the quality of wood?

Thanks,
Roy

Black Walnut grades on my scale; http://www.kensmithbasses.com/woodpa...lnutgrades.htm

Claro Walnut samples; http://www.kensmithbasses.com/woodpa...arowalnut.html

The bass shown is a Claro variety I believe and within the standard grade for that model. The picture looks to be a 3a or so.

Thanks Ken. You are the true Guru of woods :)

IHMO your 3A grade woods equals to other builder's 5A grade woods because you set your standards so high.

Any difference in sound? Describe. Thanks.

The BT Black Tiger is a bit more compressed sound and the Maple topped beauty a bit more open sounding.

Both are somewhat a ying yang of each other and l love both of them equally :)
