Calin Wultur, Reghin, Romania

Calin Wultur is one of the better grade Basses coming out of eastern Europe today. Here is a link to the 'Corsini' model Bass. Also made in the same price range is a Carcassi and Panormo model. I chose the Corsini Bass to ensure the String lenght of 41.5" maximum as the others are advertised as being 42".

What's In A Name?

Ken, would you care to share how you came to name your bass line "Corsini?"

I understand that this is commercial information and you are entirely within your props not to answer (and, for that matter, you can delete this post if you like).

But if there's some funny story about Mr. Corsini your 7th-grade teacher or suchlike, I'd love to hear it.

My sister's house line of inexpensive violins is called "Black Cat." (She's owned a bunch of cats and doubtless some of them were black.)

THANKS & ALL THE BEST.

That's the Name they are sold under from JR Music, who owns the shop in Romania. They advertise Corsini, Carcassi and Panormo models. I thought you knew that already. Or did you?

I have no clue how the Corsini name was chosen. That's the name on the Labels when the Basses come in.

Very nice looking basses and I'm glad you didn't re-label them.

Which model of the Calin Wultur basses would be good for someone primarily playing jazz? Thank you.

Model? each bass sounds different. Out of a dozen or so I had I would say half of them could go either way and the other half split to one or the other style. This of course changes with strings and set-up. I always go for an Orchestra set-up as bowing a bass is harder than plucking in a set-up.

Of course, there are all sorts of concepts what a jazz bass should sound like as well. Some like a fat round sound and some favor the buzz saw barbed wire approach.

I go for tone myself. The same bass I use in the Orchestra can do Jazz as well with the same exact set-up and set of strings. No one in either venue that hired me 'ever' complained about my sound. In fact, I usually got compliments if anything was said about it.

Strive for tone, it's the sure way in my book.
