Valse Miniature by Serge Koussevitzky

How many of you guys have learned this piece, Valse Miniature by Serge Koussevitzky?

The first time I heard it, the tune stuck in my ear. I asked a friend of mine in the orchestra for a copy of it to learn from. Is there a better or best version/player to listen to for reference on a You Tube?

Yeah, that's about as good as it gets.

Great, thanks. After watching several YouTubes of this I find Levinson to be the best all around on this including intonation, tone and vibrato. Quite a high 'bar' to set.

Fantastic version of a great piece!

Ken,

Did this piece on my Master's recital and Levinson's version is right on the money. I paired it with Chanson Triste- Koussevitzky.

My program was:
Vivaldi Cello Sonata in A Minor- at pitch
Valse Minature
Chanson Triste
Hindemith Sonata
Bottesini Concerto No. 2

Nice little catch your breath pieces.

Levinsons is the best version.

This is probably the best version, i have an LP with Levinson playing it. I got it from my teacher who studied with him. This piece is also good to check the upper registers of basses for evenness across the strings. That youtube version is the same one i have,

It sounds so smooth. Crossing the strings and shifting even on a good bass is difficult. Playing it on a standard sized Orchestra Bass (7/8) with fairly wide string spacing does not make it any easier. The smaller the bass, the easier it is to play but playing it on my regular basses makes it that much more of a challenge.
