James Jamerson on YouTube!

Folks,

Here's something I haven't seen in quite a while - a clip of Marvin Gaye in concert, with the great James Jamerson sitting right behind him, playing like only Mr. Jamerson could!

Of course th rest of the Funk Brothers (or at least most of the originals) are in attendance, amd the sound is...well, the Sound. The inimitable, superb "Motown" sound. ;)

Here's the link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y9KC7uhMY9s

You'll find the first good shot of him playing at about 1:31 into the clip. Note the one-fingered stroke style he was famous for (he affectionately called his picking finger "The Hook"). I tell ya, this guy inspired me to love the bass when I was only 9 years old, and I didn't even know who he was. What a gift he had! :)

Enjoy.

Live...

Wow, thx for that.. Very educational. I know another guy that sits or stands and plays smooth and relaxed just like him. It's in his blood actually. It's Al Turner who just happens to be related. Jamerson is his mothers maiden name. JJ is/was his Uncle.

Finally I get to see him on a live Vid. If I saw him on TV as a kid, I didn't notice who he was. Now we have him here forever to see how smooth he played those great lines.

Live is right

Wow, you don't have to see Jamerson playing to know who's playing those lines. Truly phenomenal! What an unfortunate loss, but it sure is great to have him on video! :) Thx Ronson!

If you haven't seen it, find it: I am recommending getting ahold of the "standing in the shadows of MOTOWN" DVD. Trust me on this one, but feel free to thank me later. ;)
