Stanley Clarke & double bass

Hey ken,

Did you and Stanley play or discuss upright bass back in the day? What type of basses were you guys playing in those days? Any cool old stories would be appreciated :D

Yes, we talked some. I found him his small Italian Carcassi bass in the early '70's that he used and recorded with. He called and said he wanted a small bass of high quality, I knew where the bass was and sent him there. He had then and still has an old German flatback. I had then a Czech/German round back. We had played together a few times at his apartment just jamming like playing duets, jazz style. He was GOOD.

Legendary

I think I've seen that German bass a bunch. Looks all beat up/dark & sounds great.

Would that be the bass that blew off stage and shattered into many, many pieces?

What bass was that? He was in Philly a few years ago and I adjusted his bass before he went on stage with it. It didn't look like it went off a stage previously. It is an old bass, 150 years old or so, maybe more. It looks its age.

Da bass

The ribs look DEEP on this bass! I Like when Stanley gets all percussive @ the end. He gets really aggressive & percussive with the bass on both electric & db without slapping which is really cool & unique.
