What's this DB?
Ken
Are you able to help out identifying this double bass? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?show...t=0&#entry9906 With ply construction, the bass isn't going to be a hidden strad, but are you able to discern anything from the photos and description? |
Huh?

Steve, we can't see the Pics without logging in there, sorry! |
Oh yes, I clean forgot about that. We keep the images turned off for non-logged in users to discourage lurking and I can't turn on images just for that forum alone unfortunately. If the images were embedded links I could repost them here, but he's uploaded attachments instead. Oh well, he knows where you are I guess.

Bass Identification.
Hi Ken,
here are links to pics of my ply bass. http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...er/misc075.jpg http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...er/misc074.jpg http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...er/misc072.jpg It was refinished about twenty years ago, so looks newer than it is. I wonder if anyone can date it and can tell where it was made. Cheers Keith |
Bass Identification?
Does it matter that much with Plywood Basses what the brand is?
I would suggest to you to spend the time practicing instead. Age dating, country of origin and actual maker/shop is usually only bothered with if the Bass is a handmade Bass or at least made with solid woods and not Ply. The shops that made Plywood Basses in and around Germany made them for dozens of brands and they vary very little from shop to shop but more so from period to period. Even in Romania today, the Calin Wultur shop makes only the carved Basses and buys the Plywoods and Hybrids from Gliga just like several others do including a New England shop that has been way over praised in my opinion. |
Appart from being curious, I want to move the bass on, and any info would be helpful towards its description in the for sale ads.

Beyond that I can't say for sure. |
Thanks for looking.
I'll go and get some practice in on my mid to late 19th century German flatback;) |
