interesting wing repair technique

That is I think Silver Spruce and very hard to match up as he explains. I think it looks beautiful. I have seen several of his repairs on line done in such a way as to hide the work rather than to do it the easiest way. Email him if you like and ask. I am sure he will be more than happy to discuss his work. he's a nice guy.

I have similar wide grain spruce at the edges of the french bass I am restoring. Haven't found a matching piece yet, so this way might be useful.

The wide grain is one thing but if it's wavy at all like my previous Jacquet-Gand then that makes it even harder. Also, there is some small 'fleck' in the grain of this wood. I think your bass has darker varnish than the 'golden brown' used on the Jacquet's that will also make it slightly easier for you to match up. Best of luck with the project.

I know Martyn and use him for all my double bass repair/set ups. His work is amazing and is fairly priced. I have lots of luthiers nearer me but have realised that it's always worth making the effort to travel to his workshop.

I've played 2 and the quality of workmanship and attention to detail is fantastic. The notes just fall under your fingers as the playability and his 'set ups' are superb. The quality of sound is also superb.

He also makes the best 'C' extentions I've ever seen
