Another unknown bass

http://www.smithbassforums.com/album...&pictureid=344This was my bass in high school (50yrs ago). I recently retrieved it from storage and am thiking of regluing the back and selling it. I thought I might try to determine what it is and what it's value might be before repairing it myself. I have more pics I can post. Thanks for any input,

Mark

Please post more pics. Also, I want to see the edges of the top and back to see if it is plywood or carved. That purfled strip in the back center looks like my Dolling bass. Common with that brand. The purfled design on the other hand looks like a Lang as supplied to Juzek as well as others supplied but various Saxon/Bohemian shops like the Wilfers. I have never seen both the center strip and the Blume inlay in the same bass before. It can also be possible that one shop supplied another and was finished there. The purfling width is different between the two designs. My Dolling has the same purfling all over. So, something to think about.

So, it IS a German bass from the Saxon region. That's my opinion. Possibly made or supplied on either side of WWII. I don't know what kind of old stock made 'before' the war was imported 'after' the war. Anything is possible. I have even seen basses dating from during the war but not many.

If you bring the bass here in person, I can tell you more possibly.

Be careful with these repairs. If not done expertly and with the right glue, you can hurt the value of your bass. Re-repairs cost more then re-pairs and sometimes, old incorrect repairs are not 100% reversible or correctable. So, be careful.

Ken,

That bass looks just like my bass to my untrained eye. Right down to the purfling design on the button. Must be the same maker? I'll have to figure out how to post pics. Mine has a partial sticker from some bass dealer from Philly.
