I've owned and played a Peter Elias 5-string for several years now, and I love it. I searched high and low for a good 5-string, and I've played many by top makers, both vintage and modern.

Sonores Drago Basso 5-String Set
I liked these so much on my 4-string that I switched over on my five string as well. The new set has only been on a few days, but the set sounds great so far - even the low B. As with the four, these...

I've had the Genssler strings on the 5er for just a couple of days now, but so far, so good.

Update -- I've ordered a set of the Genssler/Sonores Drago Basso wound guts for my Elias 5-string. I will be very interested in how the B string plays. Will post more once it arrives and I've...

Ken, I've been wondering the same thing. I got in touch with Gerold Genssler in Berlin (the Velvet Strings alum and bassist behind the new -- and fantastic -- Sonores line of gut bass strings), and...

Right -- the winding material is a trade secret, but it's some kind of metal (Krell?), impeccably flat-wound.
I had my old Flexocor '92/Permanent rig set at about 5mm for the G, a bit higher on...

I've been running the Sonores "Drago Basso" (standard -- not solo -- orchestra strings) on my Arvi (four-string with a low C) for a couple of months, but I've only really been able to practice a lot...

Glessner Guts
I think I'm going to try playing a set of the Genssler guts in my orchestras.
He makes almost anything you'd want, including a long C.
Not having played guts at all in about four decades, I'm...

I used to use Jazzers on B and E on my Kolstein Fendt, and they were surprisingly good. I liked the Spirocores even better. I'm not sure which way I'm going to go on my new 5-string, but I'm dying...
