Sounds like it.....
Sounds like it. I played it a few times and loved it, but again, I am VERY careful with my gear and where and how I store it.

Ahh...
Yeah, I've tried those strings as well; not a good fit for Smith Basses (IMO and to my ear). You really do need to try the Smith Medium Taper Cores (TCRM's). Once you do, you can then decide for...

Why?
Yes, that bass use to be mine. Why did I "give it up"? Good question, should've kept that one. I was approached with interest in that particular bass, so, I let it go. I have a back-up :).

Original....
The DIP Switch set-up you describe is the "New" setting. The "New" setting will give you a bit more Mid bite.
The "Original" DIP Switch set-up is as follows:
1 off ; 2 on
3 on ; 4 on
5...

Mids?
Ken is right, I would also suggest setting this bass up with the Smith Medium Taper Cores. Those strings are truly the best fit for a Smith bass. Also, I would return the DIP Switch settings back...

When?
14k: Timeframe: 2008. That's the highest the DOW had reached in its history.

Tone settings?
Any response you would get would be subjective at best: Way to many variables. You really need to experiment and dial-in the tone that works for you. The Smith circuit is not a complicated one and...

Bubinga?
Bubinga? No.
Birdseye Redwood is a very rare wood and Ken only made a few basses with it. In fact, I had never seen this wood used until Ken introduced it with his 20th. Anniversary Models. The...

Yep, it is. If you are going to do it locally, just make sure you find someone qualified, otherwise, send it to Ken. :)

Light?
You might consider Alder (if available), Ash, Lacewood, or Avodire with a Mahogany core as a possibility. If you are ordering new, you should check with Ken on availability of these choices.

A big negatory. I know the seller and the bass you are seeing was mine (I sold to him back in December). The auction is totally legitimate.

Yes, string spacing is more narrow and that works well with Hadrian's playing style. Nice looking bass. Out of curiosity, I would like to hear that same bass with Ken's Soapbar P/U's installed with...

Amps?
There's allot of nice light-weight amps out there on the market that can put out around 500W at 4 ohms and weigh around 4lbs.

I've been playing Smith basses now for 12 years and counting and don't think I could be any more satisfied.
