Gosh, that Bollbach certainly is a beautiful bass? How did you feel when he wound all those strings up? Have you seen this done before?

Very true.
That said, I think the pizz response is better that the spiro weichs, by a bit, for quick playing and much better than the BCs (yes, I know they're a bowing string). I actually like...

I don't find that they have a looser feeling than, say, spiro weichs. I'm very pleased with the feel and sound from pizz. The bowing sound is fantastic all over my bass. Interesting what you say Ken.

Evah Pirazzi Weich strings- I like them very very much. In fact, I suspect that they are my favourite string of all time - for both arco and pizz.
But how do they amplify? I did a gig with my...

I've only ever laid my hands on one Ken Smith bass; some time in the nineties - it was a six string and the guy who owned it played it very well. It sounded great. It must be one of very few in the...

Yeah, you're right, that is a nice way to do it. I've just put new EP Weichs on my bass. They feel slightly thicker that the spiros - a nice feeling. I think they'll be fun.

I played French for years and changed to German because of an injury - my brother had taken some German bow lessons with a guy in the NZSO and guided me. Now and again I try French just for fun, but...

It was just a comparison thing. I was playing in thumb position and the spiros were brighter, but the evahs had this nice dark sound. Okay, they both sounded like a bass but it's like when you try a...

Josh, this is just what I do and many here will have more expert advice. I do things in twos: G & D then E & A. I change the G, loosening the D a bit if I have to to get the G string wound nicely....

Main bass creaking again, so had to play the Bel Canti today. They sound fine. I have to do a recording (pizz) on Friday - if the EP Weichs haven't arrived, I'm sure the BC will be fine. Really, for...

How tight is your bow?

I was practising the other day and working on tone. I suddenly got back into investigating something I had overlooked for quite a while - how tight my bow hair was. Now, I'm no scientist but, it...
