Hey Greg,
I have the BMT 18V on my GN5 and the BMT 9V on my EG6. I really feel the difference is subtle. I would just drop in the Mid board IF I felt I miss anything. I wouldn't go through routing...

I meant your woods which has been sitting for a while, already cut and glued more or less to their final size (necks & bodies/wings), waiting to be assembled.

Hi Ken,
To your opinion, for the sound to be changed over time, is there a need for strings to be vibrating on a bass?
Taking into account the time your neck and body blanks sit aside, waiting for...

Hi Hector,
I would also check the G string saddle at the bridge. Check that the string sits in its place. Make sure there is optimal contact between saddle screws and bridge base.

It was NOT a Ken Smith bass.
I'm actually very sorry that I didn't order one from you back then (1999). I'm good now though :D

I once ordered a 19mm spaced 5 string custom bass from a known luthier. Upon completion I double checked and I was told the bridge has 17.5mm (or 18).
I insisted that I get what I ordered and a 19mm...

Understood. I'm glad you decided to go "flush & pitched"... I prefer the smaller string-body distance near the board.
I also think it's visually nicer, not having the pickups stick out too much,...

Correct me if I'm wrong, it would be very difficult to deal with a non-pitched neck through, unless you inlay the bridge into the body - or you need to use a very low profile bridge.

Reviving this thread to make a point regarding the action issue.
To my observation, the main difference between bolt-on and neck-through is the string-to-body distance. With BO's, there's a...

VERY NICE walnut top! Congrats and welcome.

I also went through a similar path. Ended up with a BSR5GN last September, followed by an incredible BSR6EG a month ago. Best basses for me, ever.

Completely answers my question. I guess having it all done by yourself in house allows for that flexibility. Great, thanks for explaining.

Hi Ken,
I was wondering, when adding the two thin laminates on the 5 piece wings, does it come on the account of the top & back or the body core?

Hi Keith,
The HMV bridge lets you string it either way. You can use a KS taper string by installing it the regular way - not through body.
Or, just get a KS bass :D

This is only a test...
Really crappy camera so sound quality is bad and the playback is low volume but you can hear how even and unique the sound is, the notes ring out like there is no tomorrow....

Headstock design

I'm looking at my BSR5GN headstock trying to understand how it is constructed - how many pieces of wood and the way they're glued. Can anyone elaborate about this?

Hey Ed,
Thanks! I also think it came out pretty nice but it's pure luck, I wasn't thinking about it. On the other hand, you really need to make a big mistake for a bass like this to look bad ;)
