Redirect this one to a charitable luthier or student orchestra?

I sometimes read stories about youth orchestras here and abroad that make due with modest instruments in an effort to teach children to play music.

Nope, there are three

Yes, that's the right store and they know nothing about basses. I looked at two and don't recall which one had a string length of about 41.5 and the other had 42 inches. I was looking on behalf of a...

I thought I'd share the pictures in the off chance it might be rescued by some idealist with deep pockets or the required skills. It is a smallish bass (they're calling it a church bass) but with a...

Wreck of an old Yankee

Ken,

I sent these pictures to Arnold and borrowed his reply for the title of this posting. Sadly, it would cost a fortune to restore this bass and they're asking $7,800!

I have not done a good job communicating the information, I guess. The heel pics are before and after and I should mark them as such. Someone had commented that the bass was "beautiful" so I thought...

Ken,

The bass used in my Talkbass ID is the carved bass with the odd button you saw at Arnold's. I just wanted folks to understand that it was not the one for sale but the hybrid was. Yes, it has...

My bass has that carving

It visited Arnold in 2010 so it may be the one you saw there, Ken. When I picked up my bass, Arnold showed me the bass he had built for you.

Because he had not seen that carving before, Arnold...
