Wood combinations on Smith basses

I agree. Cocobolo top and back with a soft wood, makes for a nice low end with the sparkle in the high freqs. My MD7 has this combination of woods, incredible instrument.

Smith 7-string Headstock length

I almost had the problem with the headstock - but the problem was really the other musician standing too close to me.

Last night, the guitarist kept standing too close - so I put the headstock...

Genz Benz 12.0 with Aguilar 2x12

I recently played through a bass rig with the Shuttle 12.0 and 2x12 Aguilar. Wow! This amp really fills up a space nicely and not too big.

No More Comments?

I hope I did not kill this thread...

I played my 7-string bass last night, with a LMKII head... it was nice. I might get another gig out of it.

Tone is in your touch & technique

EQ settings, running flat, or however you desire still cannot replace a players abilities with touch and technique.
Your pluck, thump, slap, pop, attack, release, and control of the strings are...

My Favorite Tone Setting...

My favorite setting is ... well... a new set of Ken Smith Burner strings. The nickel type.:)

All the EQ settings cannot replace a fresh set of strings.

Secondly. A nice sounding cabinet seems...

This appears to be Rare Ken Smith Bass

This appears to be one of those Smith Basses that are rare, low production numbers, and will always retain its value - like all Smith Basses.

I do not want another Smith bass, but this one......

Amp Settings...

Ken is right. There is no exact way to measure this. All types of variables come into play when dialing in "your" tone.

There are no specific amp settings - it is all subjective to your desired...

My 1993 BMT seems to be sounding better with time and new strings...

I recently put a set of Burners, Light gauge, on my 1993 BMT. It totally came to life. The bass sounds better than it did when I purchased it. I started noticing the better tone output about 5...

Agreed - More cabinets means better sound

Tim,

I agree. More Cabinet means more volume; coverage; etc. I generally run two 4x10 bagend cabinetsm or two 1x15 cabs. This means better coverage and volume for me. Especially in large...

Little Mark 800 & Little Mark Tube 800

The new Little Mark's now are 800 watts with a 4 Ohm load!

6.5 lbs

Smith Bass (MD7 or BMT 6/with new smith strings) + LMKII + Bag End cabinet = superior sound.

Smith-heads (smile),

What's the latest on the Signature Bass? Does any one have leads?

Nice Axes

I totally agree Tim. What great advice about the pole piece adjustments. I use the "follow" the radius of the fingerboard technique as well.

I also notice that smith strings make most basses...

Wow - that would be a nice option...

Mr. Smith,

That sounds like a nice option to have. I would drive my basses up to you - to visit you and the shop - and have my basses retro-fitted with the new-switches; if all the details work...

Can we get a sound clip of the Smith bass...

This is very interesting. Can you post a sound clip? Both Pickups, back pickup soloed and then the front pickup soloed - all in single coil mode?
