Check the string's contact surface on the saddle (at the bridge). Make sure it's smooth with the right groove width to accommodate the string.

Also, the neck glossy finish could be stripped off and get an oil finish...

Back to the thing, I prefer the BSR just for that reason. Visually, I prefer the BT shape.

I think what he means is that the BT's shorter upper horn forces the bass to the left (if you're right handed). Same scale length, just different position on your body.

So, in theory, to "modify" a 18mm bass (pickup placement) you'll need a tighter pole-spacing pickups - to keep everything aligned correctly.

I've noticed the pickup position on wide (19mm) models is difference than your standard bass. There's more space between the bridge and b/pickup. A midi pickup would fit...

I think the push/pull design implies the initial intent to only use passive mode at an emergency otherwise a toggle switch would be more convenient, IMO.
