As far as how other sound in comparison, you will have to ask others. I have little to no experience with other brands in the last 25 years or so. To me, my Basses sound best with the Pickups we put in them but that's just my opinion.

I've played a Smith with Bart's installed....
....It was a '90 Smith Burner 5-string. It sounded good but too warm for me. I prefer the Smith P/U's (hands down) primarily because of the 3-band tightness.
