Model? each bass sounds different. Out of a dozen or so I had I would say half of them could go either way and the other half split to one or the other style. This of course changes with strings and set-up. I always go for an Orchestra set-up as bowing a bass is harder than plucking in a set-up.

Of course, there are all sorts of concepts what a jazz bass should sound like as well. Some like a fat round sound and some favor the buzz saw barbed wire approach.

I go for tone myself. The same bass I use in the Orchestra can do Jazz as well with the same exact set-up and set of strings. No one in either venue that hired me 'ever' complained about my sound. In fact, I usually got compliments if anything was said about it.

Strive for tone, it's the sure way in my book.
