My sentiments concerning the 5-string that my new Smith replaced, Bob!
It's an Ibanez 5 Paduk/Bubinga thing. It's the only thing I could afford 14 years ago ($700.00), and it's treated me very well. Not long after getting it, I replaced the J-style stock pickups with
Seymour Duncans, then
EMG's, and finally, I found part of the answer in the
Bartolini's.
I've already had two offers to buy old Betsy (the Ibanez). But, like you, I'll probably just hang it up somewhere, or give it to my grandson when he gets old enough to be interested in the Bass. It got me through a long period of time in admirable fashion.
However, nothing plays or sounds like a
Ken Smith. Nothing.
