interesting wing repair technique
I wouldn't have thought of doing a repair this way but the result looks quite good.

I have similar wide grain spruce at the edges of the french bass I am restoring. Haven't found a matching piece yet, so this way might be useful.

I like the thinking of someone who would do a repair like that. Very nice.

from Martyn Bailey...
I received this today via email. Published with permission..
Dear Ken, It came to my notice that I was getting a large number of referrals on my web site from your bass forum- so I took a look to find out what was going on. So thank you for your kind words you posted concerning the double bass wing repair on my web site, it's nice to be appreciated by somebody 'in the know'. Kind Regards Martyn Bailey |

I know Martyn and use him for all my double bass repair/set ups. His work is amazing and is fairly priced. I have lots of luthiers nearer me but have realised that it's always worth making the effort to travel to his workshop.
I wanted to let you guys know a bit more about his basses. http://www.mjbl.co.uk/index.php?opti...ments&Itemid=7 I've played 2 and the quality of workmanship and attention to detail is fantastic. The notes just fall under your fingers as the playability and his 'set ups' are superb. The quality of sound is also superb. |
