Newbie from Vermont
Hi All,
Just an intro. I'm a bass player in VT. I'm trying to pick up some lutherie skills as I go, too. At the moment I'm deep in a neck reset on my 1860s-ish 5/8ish German flatback. Going slowly, lots of breathing, some tool-making/buying, lots of head scratching and good advice from knowledgeable friends! Wish me patience and sharp tools. |

Fixed! Now for setup, and some varnish touch-up...

Looks good Tyler. I suggest you strip the entire neck heel rather than trying to blend your color and varnish. How did you determine the straightness of the neck set?

Thanks for the varnish tip, Arnold. I mocked up the bridge in position, and used a combo of sighting down the FB, and using straight edges on the sides of the FB to the sides of the bridge. It actually came out the tiniest bit off center, but not too bad.
Next comes that Romanian flat back project I bought from you a few years ago...Turns out the neck block is in many pieces! |
