![]() I've been flying with my bass in a hard foam flight case for the past couple of years. The one I have is similar to what is pictured here:
http://www.kensmithbasses.com/doublebasses/Amati/ With my bass in it, it weighs in at 49 pounds so I'm never overweight. I bring my plywood bass and make sure it is heavily insured etc. etc. These cases are super light and I'd say that I only get charged an oversize fee a little over half the time. The flip side is that they aren't nearly as sturdy as a gage or stevenson trunk. My personal feeling is that you're taking your chances no matter what case you put it in and so far I've had pretty good luck. |

![]() In addition to the above...I use a similar case (hard styrofoam) but in a 1/2 size ! I have a smaller 3/4 modern French bass that fits into it! Travelling by plane has become much much easier! The whole thing is about 16 kilos! And I still have a normal, lovely sounding bass when on stage, not a travel bass, or an EUB, ...

![]() Hi Dwight,
I'll have my plywood Upton. I actually got it right after Wintergrass last year and use it now whenever I fly. I've been really happy with it. You'll have to check it out and see how it stacks up against your Cleveland, which as I remember is a pretty sweet bass. See you there. Corey |
