Finish type question
Which type of finish should I expect to find on a 94' CR4G with lacewood top and back?
Thanks! Last edited by Ronen Tat; 09-15-2013 at 08:40 AM. Reason: English error |

It depends on when it was made. The very first bolt-on basses were sprayed with lacquer but were not rubbed out high gloss. Then we went to the oil finish for most basses except the Elites.

Here's the cavity & sticker. I wonder why there is double L at the end of the serial; And, what the "LTD" on the sticker stands for. |

The LTD may have been there because this was a limited edition model. Possibly this was one of the last 3 knob circuits as the 4/5 knob BT/BMT replaced this by 1993. There were a few stragglers after 1993 so this is one of them. I would need to see more pictures of the bass. Also, I can't tell what finish is on the bass from the picture. |

I did notice other CR basses form the same year with the newer circuit.
Regarding the finish, it's oil. I wasn't sure that it's always been this way but I got some information about the history of the bass and all is fine. More pictures: Last edited by Ronen Tat; 09-24-2013 at 05:27 AM. |
