Hello from Honolulu Hawaii
Hi there.
I've been reading this forum for a few weeks now and decided to hop on in. I'm not a musician by trade (actually, accounting pays the bills here!). I've had an interest in Ken Smith basses ever since I saw one of the first 6 string contra-basses played by Anthony Jackson on the cover notes of Lee Ritenour's On the Line album years ago. The more reading I did and having the opportunity to play a Smith years ago kept the bug going for all these years. I toyed with the idea of building my own basses and actually did build a 35" scale 6 which I play today. But never have I been able to achieve the tonality that the real deal can do. I said to myself that one day I will own a Ken Smith, hopefully within the next few months I can make that a reality. I have to be honest, the original body shape is what I'm drooling over. I must say, the Smith has it's own unique look and considering the posturing that many new boutique builders have been doing over the years, IMO, nothing is like the original period. Ken, I think you have sold me. Thank you for allowing me to become part of this diverse group and family of bass players. Mahalo and Aloha Steve |
