Thanks, Ken, I said to the musician to try a change of strings.
He told me that he will do it anyway within two weeks, as he will have to study for solo playing (he's a student).
He will use a set of solo Spiros (yellows) which are very different from Evahs, so I will have some evidence about the string thing.

As I did a fingerboard dressing I lowered the nut. I don't use paper to check the overstand, I look from the side the light between the tuned string and the fingerboard, but I guess that results are similar.

Probably solo Spiros will be too thin for the slots, but it wll not be a pain to change the nut if open strings will get noisy.

We'll see...

After a change of strings the problem is still there.
When the customer will give me back the bass I will try a change of fingerboard anyway, for a thicker one of good ebony.

The quality of the Ebony matters as this wood can be a problem. The best quality will move less over time. I used to have my strings so low the G was 3mm at the end of the FB and never made a buzz. Now, I play for mostly Orchestra with the G at 4-5mm. It will only Buzz if I play very hard but I draw the bow rather then press down. A good bow also makes a difference as I don't have to press hard to get the sound. I have my Boards with total relief about 2mm maximum from end to end, almost flat the second octave and maybe 1mm-+ the first octave. The strings in the Nut almost touching the wood. The first slight camber being the only lift of string off the wood.

The music is hard enough so why fight the instrument to play it?
