but also, the bass does not have the laquer finish on it, so it is going to wear more... My BMT has seen probably more play, but with the laquer finish, it protects my nails from digging into the wood in the same places... on my BMT you can see dents in the laquer but no damage to the wood... but the finish on that bass is nice and fast on the neck!

![]() If it's mine you're referring to you can't order a new one like it.. Ken doesn't stock Koa anymore, and the core wood in mine is Koa.. But you can get one close at least

![]() then ill get one thats close. i love the smooth look of your bass. i find though that no matter which smith bass you play, new or used they feel so broken in already. right off the shelf and it feels like you've been playing it for years!

![]() Hi there,
Allready half a year being busy to get myself a knock-out Smith bass.. ![]() Being these are not cheap instruments my basic motivation was to try some different basses of the same brand next to eachother and choose-out wich to buy. Prior to all of this I kept this forum in check ofcourse ![]() Anyways I made a desicion to go to a place in the US where they had piles of Smith's in store. This place being Bass Central Fern Park near Orlando. I tried about 7 instruments in total among a second hand BSR6EG a new BSR5TN and some BSR*MW's, and just because I was curious an Elrick. These guys where nice enough to unpack a few instruments as they have most of their stock stuff in in boxes ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Bram Schoonderbeek; 11-30-2008 at 12:23 PM. ![]() For those who sometimes take a look into the "For sale" threads: I've got this beauty from G.M. - another forum user - and restored it to the original fretless neck at Bassline here in Germany. After years and years of looking for such a rare animal here in Europe I am totally happy to own this. It is pure fun to play. Thanks to G.M. again ...
Up to now I had some concerns whether my favourite fretted bass model (another BMT 5) would perform as a fretless as well. Issue closed: It is a fantastic fretless ![]() ![]() ![]() BMTmania......... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Rainer Bastian; 01-27-2009 at 07:05 PM. |

![]() Here is some photos of my 1985 Ken Smith BT 5 G. It is one of the first 200 basses that were made in New York and it was the first bass Ken did in a Shedua top and back. It has a flamed maple core and matching headstock. This bass has the killer 4 knob KS electronics and looks and sounds like the 5 string version of John Patitucci's 1985 6 sting bass. I believe that this is the bass that was photographed on the cover of Ken's 1986 Catalog (unsure, but the woodgrain says...Match). It is 100% original, in near mint condition, and sounds better than it looks!
I am the second owner and it has all the original documentation, original strap, original case, and everything else. For it's age, it is in incredible condition. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
