but also, the bass does not have the laquer finish on it, so it is going to wear more... My BMT has seen probably more play, but with the laquer finish, it protects my nails from digging into the wood in the same places... on my BMT you can see dents in the laquer but no damage to the wood... but the finish on that bass is nice and fast on the neck!

If it's mine you're referring to you can't order a new one like it.. Ken doesn't stock Koa anymore, and the core wood in mine is Koa.. But you can get one close at least

then ill get one thats close. i love the smooth look of your bass. i find though that no matter which smith bass you play, new or used they feel so broken in already. right off the shelf and it feels like you've been playing it for years!

My trip to Florida and reaching my goal... a Smith a Smith!!!!
Hi there,
Allready half a year being busy to get myself a knock-out Smith bass.. Being these are not cheap instruments my basic motivation was to try some different basses of the same brand next to eachother and choose-out wich to buy. Prior to all of this I kept this forum in check ofcourse and also I began to collect all kinds of youtube clips and sound recordings of smith basses, so that I knew what was what I liked and what a real good smith bass sounded like. I had allready played on one Smith that was for sale in the Netherlands, actually this is the exact bass you see in the previous post, Peter's bass. I was amazed how easy it was to navigate on that 6-string bass, never played 6 strings before so this was a fantastic experience. Anyways I made a desicion to go to a place in the US where they had piles of Smith's in store. This place being Bass Central Fern Park near Orlando. I tried about 7 instruments in total among a second hand BSR6EG a new BSR5TN and some BSR*MW's, and just because I was curious an Elrick. These guys where nice enough to unpack a few instruments as they have most of their stock stuff in in boxes... I mean thats service!.Tho all instruments where pretty good, they did vary alot more in quality then I had enticipated. After a few hours of switching back and forth only a second-hand BRS5MW and the 5TN where left over, and purely cos the 5MW was less than half the costs and had the most monstrous low-B I ever heard plus being incredible even, I took the less impressive looks of the 5MW for granted and bought that thing right there and then WHOOHOO! Now being home again I couldnt be more happier, cos now I know I got a really really good Smith, and together with my Glockenklang rig it is something else I tell you! For those who sometimes take a look into the "For sale" threads: I've got this beauty from G.M. - another forum user - and restored it to the original fretless neck at Bassline here in Germany. After years and years of looking for such a rare animal here in Europe I am totally happy to own this. It is pure fun to play. Thanks to G.M. again ...
Up to now I had some concerns whether my favourite fretted bass model (another BMT 5) would perform as a fretless as well. Issue closed: It is a fantastic fretless even with the dense woods in the neck, which supports more attack instead of mwah imho... BMTmania......... My Smiths
2002 BSR6GN Bubinga and 2009 BSR5MW Tiger Maple. I have a confession, I've only been playing for almost 11 months. I've been accused and suspected of knowing what I want!!

My NYC 1985 Ken Smith BT V G first Shedua Bass ever!
Here is some photos of my 1985 Ken Smith BT 5 G. It is one of the first 200 basses that were made in New York and it was the first bass Ken did in a Shedua top and back. It has a flamed maple core and matching headstock. This bass has the killer 4 knob KS electronics and looks and sounds like the 5 string version of John Patitucci's 1985 6 sting bass. I believe that this is the bass that was photographed on the cover of Ken's 1986 Catalog (unsure, but the woodgrain says...Match). It is 100% original, in near mint condition, and sounds better than it looks!
I am the second owner and it has all the original documentation, original strap, original case, and everything else. For it's age, it is in incredible condition. |
