Default Drop Tuner on a Ken Smith?

Hiya guys,

I'm wondering if it's possible to put in a drop-tuner (or 'de-tuner' - whatever they are called) on my KS 6 string bass. If any bass can handle the low frequencies - this one would.

I'm wondering if drop tuners are available for the KS tuners, and

is it feasible? I don't know if the string's detuning/retuning would wear out the brass nut. (NOT wanting that!)

I have a drop tuner on my Fender Reggie Hamilton 5 string, but the nut on that one is - hmm - what is it called - 'phenalic'? It's some sort of bone/plastic looking piece.

Thanks for the replies!

Dave

Question Drop?

Drop to where? 'B' is not low enough? Audible fundamental is the question you should ask yourself? Can you even hear a real note down there or will the band have to stop and wait for the note a bar or two?

I have seen one 4 string with this added. They RUINED the Coat of Arms carving by cutting in to it for the added drop gadget.

Thanks for the reply, Ken!

It would be nice to have down to the low A, but - "...RUINED the Coat of Arms"?

Well, that is a good reason not to do it then!

Detune the bass then and try the T145 gauge as well for that.
