My double bass is a plywood, but I've spent years tweaking it and I reckon it'd give any wooden bass a run for its money! I've got some recordings that I'll try and post some time... not very good with computers.

Nothing at all wrong with ply. Last week I made a short trip out to Bob Branstetter's place and spent a few minutes with his restored Kays. There are barely words to describe the playability and tone of those basses.

Thanks for that Greg.
My ply doesn't sound too bad next to my brother's 100+ year old French bass, though obviously not as good!

This was just the basic intro to the Forum or maybe just one of them.

Ok, oK... How heavy is your Bass? On a scale with no cover or Bow or gadgets except the endpin. Just the Bass itself. 20, 22, 25, 30 lbs?

I can tell you in kilograms, God knows I've carried it far enough over the years to know its weight!
10kg exactly! (I checked on the scales)

Ok, School's in. A Kilogram = 2.2046 pounds. So, your Bass is 22.046 lbs. That's about the average or a little under it as compared to my Basses weighing 23-25lbs. A few hit 20-22 but most are heavier. The Prescott was way up there near the 30 mark.

Interesting. My bass is a slightly shorter scale than a standard 3/4.
