Default What to order for my next Ken Smith

Hey all, just looking for some advice on my next Ken Smith bass. I already have a BSR5J-MW, which I love. I'll pass this one down to my kids in another 20 years or so

I love the feel of my BSR5J, and I have liked every neck-through I have had the pleasure to play (at the store). I know I'll be pleased with whatever I decide on!

I'm horrid at describing sound qualities, but I'll give it a shot. I want a somewhat thick tone, with plenty of low-mid growl. I also want plenty of snap. I plan to use it jack-of-all-trade style, everything from jazz to rock. Slap tone is also important.

Either a BSR5GN or a Black tiger, I think. I kind of like 5 piece wings, but not sure if it necessary.

Necessary is a subjective thing. Are you going to notice a huge difference between the 3 piece and 5 piece bodies? No.

But that's kinda like buying a Porsche and debating if you should pay a little more to get the sun roof. Go for it!

We could all play on $200 pos basses, that's all that is "necessary". You're looking for a quality instrument, for a quality musician.. The 5/7 piece options are mostly cosmetic, but it does make a bit of difference in tone and a huge difference in overall beauty of the bass (to me at least, I love the look of the 5 and 7 piece bodies)

I would call the factory and talk to someone there. When I called and told them what I wanted that helped me find the right combination. My bubinga with a walnut core gives me the exact tone I wanted. I can take my MTD 535 with the same amp and the same settings, and it sounds very thin compared the the Smith.
