My New Cleveland
Hi, I received a special present in the mail yesterday!
A New Standard Cleveland from Wil and Arnold. I think it's the first in New Zealand, and it's probably the southernmost Cleveland in the world! . Here's the box it came in (that's the freight co. guy): Here it is leaning against my hedge: |

southernmost cleveland
Well that beats mine out then, its in Sydney. Mine's 3-4 years old I guess and looks very similar (great varnish job as always!) and has been around the world a few times now. Arnold's set up is 2nd to none IMHO. Not sure if there are any others in Australia? Mine was just used for a tour by Eugene Wright who chose it over a very good carved bass. He got a gorgeous sound from it the night I heard him in Sydney. If anyone's interested I might be selling it as I have too many basses in my life .....!

Hi David, what guts do you like on your Cleveland?
I've got spiro reds on at the moment, and they sound good. I have guts on my other bass (old Labellas) and it's great to be able to hear the note with spiros! |

gut on cleveland
Currently the bass has solo gauge Thomastik superflex as thats what Gene Wright wanted and yes its sounds great and very easy to play with those on. I have often had it strung with a whole set of old Golden Spirals or redO Rays - actually it sounds good either way but more tonal colour with guts and still clear IMO.
