Default Why does a painted Kay Bass drop its value?

Im still searching for a new bass and keeping my low money options open. I stumble upon this http://www.theluthier.us/theluthier....Kay_S-9.html#5

in the comments is says "What happens to a 1947 blond swingmaster bass when you paint it brown? The price drops by about $1000!"

why is the sound messed up now or whats going on?
