Mikko Moilanen is on a distinguished road
Default hello pandas from finland!

i am here through the Italian basses forum, with our current interest to the very same OLD italian bass with Ken.

my name is mikko moilanen. i am born 1978 and work currently as a principal of the helsinki philharmonic orchestra of finland. helsinki is our capital and this orchestra is jean sibelius's orchestra. looking at our bass notes there are signatures by some of the most historical players like ludwig juht, who went to play as a principal for boston symphony (juht was estonian and at time the leap from russia, which estonia was forcefully part of came not without maestro koussevitskys help. so he smugled juht to the states). i am blessed with really one of the best sections in this tellus. and not being a religious sort i feel it is a grace just to be playing with players of this caliber. as a tutti player i started in 2000, i was 21. after years i became a principal (we have two) in 2007, really unexpected, as i was 28. audition is an audition, you all know that. i have studied with the best teachers in the world and had my change to play really good chamber music from early on. i dont think myself as a really great player (like posta, stoll, saksala, barker, levinson.. or anyone in the Helsinki Phil basses..). but i am learning. not to come posta or whom whatsoever as a bassist but to become fully satisfied as my own as a musician. which will never happen

i am currently trying to learn a bit of jazz with bass (as 10 years or more before).. as i have no intention living the jazz life i am always some steps short with it. i used to play a real heavy fusion with my guitar. i still do but i dont get myself mixed out as i have a duty to do with classical world and it can be a tad hard sometimes. but please, check out allan holdsworth. he is the one who got me to quit guitar.
