Default Pere Pillement?

What's the story on this maker?

He was a maker and had a son I believe. There is some connection later on with the first Jacquet either in business or marriage.

Can you be more specific with your question? Pillement is a listed maker, no mystery there. Pere' is or means the father, or head of that family in the makers. Like with Bernardel, the eldest Auguste Sebastien is known as Bernardel Pere'. Pere' is a title perhaps self proclaimed.

It would be called or listed as Pillement Pere'. He worked at Mirecourt but labeled some of his instruments as made in Paris which they say isn't so!

Sure. I'm looking at a fine double bass attributed to Pillement Pere and I'm curious about any information about the maker that folks may have.

How is the bass? What information can be provided that would be more to know about than the bass itself in your hands and/or inspected inside? He dates from the late 18th to the early 19th century. Pre-Vuillaume in style. I have seen two pictured and heard of another that was as they described it, 'very big'. Basses might be stamped inside the back if not labeled.

Need more? His favorite book? Favorite food? Hobbies? Sports?

Post some pictures of the bass if you can.

Here is one I found on line;

I have a picture of a bass I saw years ago when looking for/at basses and the Scroll was the same with the built-in raised cheeks as this so that was probably this same maker but was Gamba shaped;

This scroll/pegbox may be the best way to ID them as it looks to be his trademark.

The bass I saw was not a Pillement, no way, no how. But thanks for the info.

Ok, so show the NOT Pillement Bass so my effort was not a total waste. What was it? How old was it to your eye or the age they quoted? Was it even French?

Unfortunately, there are no photos of the bass. It did look French to my untrained eye. It was nice but needed extensive repairs.

I'm not trying to waste anyone's time or efforts... I thought there may be others interested in this particular maker and possibly find someone who owns a Pillement. Perhaps someone may show up with more info. Thanks for the photos, they were helpful.
