Well I'm usually a lurker, but just thought I'd chime in, too, with the "surge" to this board!

I'm a recent transplant to Chicagoland from Virginia (Norfolk and Williamsburg), and am currently working on my doctorate in chemistry at Northwestern University. The Bass has always been a hobby for me - ever since elementary school, but playing it well... that's a different story! Double on electric and upright, but I primarily play upright and I've enjoyed playing it in orchestras as well as the occasional jazz gig. Beyond performing and listening to music, other hobbies include reading, cooking, W123 series diesel Mercedes station wagons (best cars EVER made), and enjoying fine beers and wines.
