finger tones
Today i was at rehearsal and i let the keyboardist play around with my bass. He is sort of a big guy so he has thick fingers, as opposed to me who is a small guy and have skinny fingers. THis dude doesnt even really play bass but he played and got the nicest fattest Smith tone I ever heard. Then i get back on and the sound is gone. Man was I upset, I wish I could of got that tone but I couldnt get it because I have skinny fingers. Oh well, part of life.

what part of your fingers are you using? are you just using the tips or are you digging in ...
Im a skinny dude as well,, but dig in so that a lot of the "meat" from the tips of my fingers make contact with the string... hrmm...

i feel the tone comes from the body. your whole hand. the fingers, palms even the fingernails. i probably use 5 different parts or angles of the hand/ fingers to get the tone i need for a given piece of music.
